REQUIRED FIELD TRIP INFORMATION!!
In addition to the lectures, audio lab, and birdhouse
workshop, the BSA requires that Bird Study Merit Badge candidates complete a
field trip with bird identification. The
field trip requirement can be met by joining Shenandoah Audubon president Jim
Smith at the Abrams Creek wetlands or Charlie Hagan at the Third Winchester
battlefield park on Red Bud Road north of town.
Jim Smith’s walks will be scheduled for alternate Saturday mornings starting March 30 and April 13 & 27 as posted on the Shenandoah Audubon website. Meet at the
Children of America’s parking lot off of West Jubal Early Dr., appox ½ mile
west of Valley Ave. at 8:30AM. Dress for
the weather and you will want to bring water, binocs, and/or a camera. The walks take about 2 hours. You should contact Jim at 540 303 3983 or
email jsmiff@comcast.net as there are limited spots for each walk.
Charlie Hagan will host the Third Winchester battlefield
birding walks starting April 20 and 28. We meet at the north entrance parking lot on Red Bud Road at 8:30AM. Dress warmly! Bring water, binocs and/or
camera and plan to spend 2 hours and recap afterwards at the McDonalds next to
Lowes at Rutherford Crossing. Register
with Charlie Naturelover@ShenandoahNaturalists.org
or call 540 667 6778 & leave a message with a callback number.
Scouts will need to fill out a Merit Badge Application (the ‘Blue
Card’ which is available online at http://usscouts.org/advance/docs/34124.pdf
) and have it signed by each Scout’s
Scoutmaster. Please bring these to the
workshop or no later than the field trip event to complete all the Merit Badge
requirements!
